Pay Rate: Starting at $18.00/hour (DOE)
Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Position Summary
SMS Staffing is seeking a skilled and dependable Facility Mechanic to join a growing manufacturing operation in the Lake County area. The Facility Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery, equipment, piping systems, and facility structures. This role is essential in supporting safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, and piping systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment and facility systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and structural issues.
- Repair or replace defective components and equipment as necessary.
- Assemble, install, and maintain piping systems, valves, gauges, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Operate welding and cutting equipment to repair or fabricate components.
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanical parts including shafts, bearings, and gears.
- Perform facility repairs on counters, benches, partitions, and other building structures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with training and knowledge transfer as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous industrial maintenance, facility maintenance, or mechanical repair experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic math and arithmetic skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and piping systems preferred.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Must provide own basic tools and toolbox.

- Ability to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, and perform physical maintenance tasks.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to identify and report unsafe conditions.
- Flexibility to work overtime as business needs require.
