Job Title: Material Handler
Job Location: North Chicago, IL
Job Type: Temp-to-Hire
Pay: Starting at $18.00/hr. (Depending on Experience)
Shift Structure: 2nd Shift
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM & Friday, 11:00 AM–7:30 PM
About the Material Handler Role
The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, storage, movement, and transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals. This position involves safety-sensitive functions and requires strict adherence to established safety procedures and company policies.
General Responsibilities for the Material Handler
- Safely handle, store, label, and load/unload materials.
- Maintain the integrity of materials stored in the warehouse.
- Pull components according to Picking Lists and special instructions.
- Store materials in various racks, shelves, and designated floor locations.
- Operate forklifts and/or powered pallet jacks.
- Operate drum dollies and manual pallet jacks as needed.
- Safely load, unload, and transport hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals.
- Safely complete tasks and duties in accordance with training and established procedures.
- Complete cycle counts as requested and participate in scheduled physical inventories.
- Neatly and accurately complete all necessary paperwork applicable to the task.
- Immediately report safety issues, incidents, and/or safety violations to management.
- Wear appropriate PPE as required.
Other Duties for the Material Handler
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Complete all machine training offered by the company appropriate to the job function.
- Perform additional activities and responsibilities as assigned.
- Follow food safety procedures and requirements when applicable.
Qualifications for the Material Handler Role
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills are required.
- Must have at least 2 years of forklift experience.
- Must be able to frequently lift at least 50 lbs. throughout the shift.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to follow safety procedures and work effectively in a safety-sensitive environment.
